Break
al 'technical', technological', 'operational' etc. breaks make no sense in English. In Russian senseless 'tekhnologuchesky' mesmerizes general public and people wait patiently and silently and obediently since this is proizvidstvennaya neobkhodimost:-), but anywhere else this is a plain break in the middle of a business day. The difference is that elsewhere the next window will be open:-)))))))))

: If you plug the term into (Russian) Google, it applies to all fields and indefinite time - minutes,hours, days. It's just a break in whatever process is under consideration. I also agree that " технологический" is beat to death in Russian, meaningless

Слова "technology" или "maintenance" здесь просто неуместны. Технология центра занятости - это набор операций по делопроизводству. По ведомственным инструкциям работники имеют право на кратковременный периодический перерыв в рабочее время по любым основаниям (поменять картридж в принтере, справить нужду, проветрить помещение и т.д.). Кроме этого имеется обеденный перерыв 1 час (lunch break или просто break). Вопрос: На какой же из перерывов закрыт отдел?

: я понимаю "технол. перерыв" несколько иначе "период, когда (например) работники заносят в компьютер данные посетителей, накопившееся за какой-то период работы" (it's not maintenance) - т.е. НЕ "закрыто по техническим причинам"

Closed for technical reasons
As the term does not specify what is actually taking place and it may be translated differently depending on the work taking place in the building, so it might be best to not specify the reason - though it sounds like subtle cultural differences are at play here!
