| Checked in | Lourdes Zalcik The Right Word at The Right Time Канада Native in испанский (Variant: Mexican) Freelancer | Bio: I was born and raised in Mexico. My parents, being teachers, love books, travelling, classic music, and culture in general. Their main goal was to educate their children using the best educational techniques. I am not aware if my parents really based our education in sc...ientific techniques, but all those books and travelling inspired me and kept me entertained while, for some strange reason, the TV was usually broken.
Since basic school and all the way through university, I always received excellent scores in any subject that required writing. After owning a Graphic Design business for 14 years, I discovered museums as my favourite place to work, so I worked at Museo Dolores Olmedo Patiño from 1996 to 2000 and organized educational activities and ran the gift shop in partnership with Museo de Geología UNAM from 200o to 2002, when I moved to Canada, where I volunteered during the year 2003 at Odyssium, which now has changed its name to Telus World of Science.
In 2003, I started working for a Canadian marketing research firm. My main responsibility at the time was to edit and correct text in Spanish. Over time, I started working also on translations and transcriptions. I was part of a team that included people from several countries. They all taught me great lessons about their own cultures, about working methods, and about translation. I discovered my vocation as a translator in this marketing research firm.
Since 2002, I volunteer for The Mexican Cultural Society of Edmonton and Edmonton, in which I've held different positions as Vice President, Interim President, Secretary, Cultural Events Coordinator, and English Conversation Club Facilitator. During my relationship with The Mexican Cultural Society of Edmonton, I have always supported my association with interpretation and translation from English into Spanish and from Spanish into English.
Since 2009 I also volunteer for the Immigrant Services Association as a volunteer translator and interpreter.
In 2010, due to a change in my relationship with my employer, I became a freelance translator, and I now keep serving my ex-employer as a free lance translator.
I am currently working on improving my credentials in order to not just offer an excellent service but also back it up with the proper credentials and to grow up as a translator. I am working on it, and I welcome every opportunity that helps me move ahead in the right direction.More Less Message: Dear translator friends, I welcome every opportunity to team up and help each other succeed. Nice to meet you all. |
