It was hard to make your sentence work. Normally an airplane moving along the front line, would be considered a "crossing target". But I couldn't fit this term into your sentence.
Incoming target - moving along the shooting plane towards the shooter
Crossing target - crossing the shooting plane
Quartering target - moving along or at an angle to the shooting plane away from the shooter
