Callaham writes "luda" in English, but that's not in the big Webster's. Callaham explains, "a rocky littoral shoal or islet."

What I was going to write, before being rudely booted off by a power outage, was that your first sentence might be:
"A flock ... over the rocky shoals off [Summers] Island" (or however it's spelled, Somers or Summers).
And the second could be "a rocky islet and shoals around"...
