Can you suggest a Russian translation for "progress tutor" - possibly a descriptive phrase, but not too long!
Thanks

Discussion

Marlin31 May 27, 2023:
It is necessary to elaborate the meanings of these three terms:
1. Personal Progress Tutor - персональный куратор.
The closest duty in Russia is руководитель курсовой работы. But it is limited to academic mentoring.
2. Progress Tutor - куратор группы. This is what we exactly have in Russian universities/colleges.
3. Senior (Progress) Tutor - старший куратор/куратор курса или (всего) факультета. Probably, there may be a similar job in Russian universities/colleges, but I'm not sure.

Thank you for the comments. That's very helpful. That's what I need here: a reasonable approximation in Russian. I'm also keeping the English job title because this is a UK context with a specifically UK job title.
The job title was actually new to me in English.

I agree with Dylan Edwards, but in Russian it is simply «куратор» without the word «преподаватель»
Marlin31 May 26, 2023:
I'd call them 'кураторы', but not 'преподаватели'. However, the term куратор is not correct because кураторы in Russia are usually teachers/professors, and their major duty is teaching, not mentoring. There is no job at Russian Universities which might be equivalent to that of a progress tutor. I'd call the personal progress tutor as 'руководитель курсовой работы, e.g., https://sixth.trinitymat.org/key-info/student-support/person...
"The role of a PPT is that of an academic and pastoral mentor".
But PPTs on this webpage are young people (not PhDs), which is hardly ever possible in Russia.
Here,
https://sjr.ac.uk/college-life/student-support/tutorial-less...
we see that "If your Progress Tutor is like your Form Tutor at school, then your Senior Tutor is the equivalent of your Head of Year".
Form tutor is 'классный руководитель' at Russian schools, while Head of Year is 'классный руководитель потока' (job not typical of Russia):

So, summarizing the above points, 'куратор' is the most adequate translation (in my opinion).

Roughly "преподаватель-куратор" ?

куратор

Я бы сказал просто куратор, Куратор — преподаватель, которого закрепляют за группой, как классного руководителя в школе.
Считаю что это подходящий (в реалиях российской образовательной системы)
