All one needs to do is to get used to the tool and understand every button, every shortcut and every command. If you only use 3 or 4 features then you shouldn't be working with it at all because you'll think it's a bad tool. ▲ Collapse | | | Andrzej Lejman Польша Local time: 16:46 немецкий => польский + ... Is it true, that Transit Satellite PE, the second or first (subjectively) worst CAT is also a German product?
Is that pure coincidence? Is the philosophy different? Is the product obsolete and unfriendly in the same way? Has it been developed and improved?
The nice difference is that I have no more clients for Transit. They have changed to Studio.

Trados is a German product:

But Transit is a Swiss product:

And Wordfast is French (or Italian, depending on which version you're using). And MemoQ is Hungarian, but their web site is in German. Déjà Vu is Spanish (or is it?).

Why? Because all jobs I have had with Across so far were a disaster. My productivity with this tool is roughly 50% of what I can achieve in other tools under similar circumstances. Provided a bad TM from the customer, a dumb terminology list I can still work efficiently with other tools, but not with Across. This tool is slow.
One day I needed 2 hours for 2 jobs with roughly 100 words to translate in total. Why? Because I have had to receive and deliver packages. And then the other day, when I started Across again, I've got this nasty message "The PM has taken this task away from you. It will be *deleted* from your computer. Do you want to continue?" Even if you say no, the job is gone. All your work is down the drain to the server of you customer. It is really like in the Evita musical: "We'd love you to stay, but you'd be in the way, so do up your trousers and go!" I do not think I need to add anything more.
Please read these lines as my solely subjective opinion, not representing anyone. This is just my own opinion, in my function as translator and no one else. As a translator I refuse to take any Across jobs. ▲ Collapse | | | Theo Bernards (X) Франция Local time: 16:46 английский => голландский + ... Blame the PM, not the tool, perhaps? | Oct 29, 2013 |

OK, apparently Across offers that capability for agencies with an Across language server. But does the blame rest on the tool or on the PM who actually took the task away from you? | | | Jerzy Czopik Германия Local time: 16:46 Член ProZ.com c 2003 польский => немецкий + ... This very case is of course the problem of the PM.
But you kindly overseen the rest of my posting.
The tool is too slow, it is hard to control and does not allow any simple form of data backup.
My data is stored somewhere in my computer, where I have no access to it. To make a backup I need special tools. Moving a project from desktop to laptop is impossible AFAIK. Having my wife revising the translation means having her at my PC for the time of revision - ridiculous. Across means there and many other smaller or bigger headaches.
Samuel called me here, stating:
But, even if the quote was accurate, it doesn't actually say anything about Across except that Czopik also dislikes Across, for reasons that we don't know.
I wanted to give you my reasons for my personal dislike to this program. You see them above. So for me my participation here stops at this point. If you like Across, feel free to use it. But also please do not try to convince me to like it. This is only fair, OK? Thank you. ▲ Collapse | | | Theo Bernards (X) Франция Local time: 16:46 английский => голландский + ... Sorry, I wasn't aware that I tried to convince you to use it - although I am pretty sure that I would not succeed. Yes, I cherry-picked in your post, but I didn't want to go overboard because you so obviously don't like Across, so what would be the point of trying to convince you otherwise?
This discussion was nice as long as it lasted, but should never have taken place in this forum: the Across forum is not the most appropriate place to vent and rant about the tool, it is aimed at finding solutions. Strange how the forum moderator did not pick up on this one...

IMO moderators generally overreact in SDL forum but perhaps it is due to the fact that SDL is severely criticized. On the other hand we are free to stigmatize Across | | | Possible explanations | Oct 31, 2013 |

Maybe: 1) moderators are cooler on this forum, 2) Across doesn't buy any advertising space from ProZ, so they don't care if it gets bad-mouthed. | | | Marius Reika Local time: 16:46 Член ProZ.com c 2006 английский => литовский

They call you and guide you step by step through the installation. I had problems on one of my computers, on the other one everything went smooth. But I have only installed the tool and never used it so far, so I cannot say anything. | | | Страниц в теме: < [1 2] | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » The end of Across Trados Studio 2022 Freelance | The leading translation software used by over 270,000 translators.
