I'm having trouble proofreading using Across and am wondering if perhaps the system is not working as it should. I've not used it before.

I have followed the instructions in the user manual, but when I get to p. 121, section 6 "Make all the corrections to the sentences in the first paragraph in the Target Editor" I can't change the text. I have the Edit Mode set up, and have located the Target Editor section, and activated the sentence in question - but when I mark the words I want

I have followed the instructions in the user manual, but when I get to p. 121, section 6 "Make all the corrections to the sentences in the first paragraph in the Target Editor" I can't change the text. I have the Edit Mode set up, and have located the Target Editor section, and activated the sentence in question - but when I mark the words I want to change, I can't delete or write over them. Is that normal?

Just knowing whether this usually happens would be useful. Any other Across users here who've managed to proofread a document in the past?

Roles control Jul 5, 2011

I can't remember very well, but I guess, this is because you were assigned the role of translating the text.
Send the translated text to your client, then he should send you the job again but for proofreading.

Hopefully this would help you!

Regards
ATT

translation/proofreading Jul 5, 2011

Thanks for the help.

When the task came up for me to accept, it said it was a proofreading job. However, the people at the other end are not familiar with the system either, so it might not have been assigned right.

When I entered the password they sent me, it said I had previously logged in on another computer. I hadn't, so I guess this means I and the translator have the same login. Might that be the problem?

Ofline project Jul 5, 2011

This message means mostly, that someone else is already logged in at the same time.
Otherwise, there could be a problem with the server itself.

Try asking them to send you the job as an offline-project. This is a copy of the project, that you can work on without having to be connected to the server online. Then after you finish, you send them the reviewed project and they receive it ofline as well. Just the same way you work in a traditional TM tool.

Otherwise, they will have to ask Across support for help, which they pay for.

Best regards

Difference between proofreading and correction in Across? Jul 28, 2011

Still haven't managed to make this work despite several attempts. Called Across, who said that they don't have a telephone helpline, though the lady who answered listened to my description and also said it sounded like the client might be assigning me the task the wrong way.

I've noticed that these tasks appear as "Lektorat" rather than "Korrektur". (Across seems to translate these as proofreading and correction, respectively.) Does anyone know if editing is restricted for Lektorat

Review doesn't allow changing text Aug 3, 2011

Correction ("Korrektur") task allows editing of target text.
Review ("Lektorat" is "Review", and not "Proofreading" actually) doesn't allow this - it only allows marking paragraphs as "checked" (so they'll be accepted) or "touched" (they will be rejected to translator).
