Auto-insertion of terminology Автор темы: Hans Lenting

Hi all,
One of the basic features I'm missing in Across is the ability to auto-insert recognized terminology into the Target Editor. Nearly every other CAT tool offers such a productivity boosting feature.
Yesterday I've entered a Request for Change in order to implement Auto-insertion.
Please support my request by responding to this thread.

this is a rubbish feature with no benefits. If you have more than one translation of a specific term which one should be automatically inserted?
Rather double-click on the required term and it will be inserted.

So all the other CAT tools are rubbish - is that what you are saying?
Come on, think again ...

what I've written. If you read something else that's your problem. I suggest you download and read all Across manuals. Once you have read and understood everything ask questions by all means. Secondly, if you don't like Across then don't use it. It seems that - by asking specific questions - you are trying to run down Across.

That is a feature of DVX, Ctrl+A assembles from portions (both termbase and shorter segments from TM). And MemoQ has a similar function, though it is not so successful. But I don't know any other CAT tools which can auto-insert terms.

Subject/domain and client fields help in that case.

Auto-insertion might be helpful in certain cases, I agree. However, using any CAT tool I don't want to auto-insert; I want to be in control. Therefore, (in Across) I double-click the term, or Ctrl + Number - finished.

I quite agree with Roland in this case. I don't want Across inserting things without my explicit agreement especially as certain translations in my daily work can have several translations, e.g. a 'délais' can either be a 'due date' or a 'delay' (the same sort of problem is present for the same word when working into German). In my case working translating an ERP software application, the results of auto-insertion would be highly misleading or confusing for our end users.
