» Why should we re-examine Translator education and training at university level in Morocco ?
By Fouad El karnichi | Published 08/2/2010 | Translator Education | Recommendation:RateSecARateSecARateSecARateSecARateSecI
There seems to be a major issue facing translator training programs at university levels in Morocco. This includes a review of the proposed syllabus design, course contents as well as the lack of a proper didactic -let alone pedagogy- for delivering the translation instructions within the classroom. This paper shall be divided into two parts: The current dealing with the issue of institutionalising translation within a university context in Morocco and a review of syllabus contents. The second part will deal with methodology( forthcoming). Thus, we shall tackle issues dealing with the syllabus, which if it is properly designed, planned and constructed to include and take into consideration the academic and professional perspectives and dimensions, would highly make a difference in a university context. Hence, bridging the academic and professional factors in a translation course is a big move towards institutionalising the discipline in academia. A case in point is the status of translator training and education at the Moroccan university.
