Gilberto Casta�eda-Hern�ndez, Ph.D.


Gilberto Casta�eda-Hern�ndez is Professor and Chairman at the Secci�n de Farmacolog�a del Centro de Investigaci�n y de Estudios Avanzados del Instituto Polit�cnico Nacional in M�xico City. He obtained his B.Sc. in Biology at the Universidad Aut�noma Metropolitana in Mexico City in 1979 and his Ph.D. in Pharmacology at the Universit� Catholique de Louvain in Belgium in 1984. He was a visiting scientist at the Universit� de Montr�al in 1992-1993 and at the Universidad Nacional Aut�noma de M�xico in 1996. He was president of the Western Pharmacology Society (constituted by pharmacologists from the U.S.A, Canada and Mexico) in 1997-1998, and of the Asociaci�n Mexicana de Farmacolog�a in 1999-2000. He has written more than 100 scientific articles in English and Spanish and is frequently invited to give lectures in Spanish, English or French. Thus, he has first hand knowledge of the challenges of translation. Having traveled through several countries, and thus been exposed to different languages, he has developed a major interest on the complexities of the translation of geographical terms.
