I am a trilingual translator with a strong academic background and significant experience in video production and graphic design. My strongest points are technical and scientific translations, as well as subtitling, voiceovers and localization services. I also edit, proofread, and assist some of my clients in conveying their concepts into coherent and flawless pieces of writing, sometimes with a pinch of copywriting. But what I consider essential for the industry is having what clients often call "the native feel".
Born into a multinational family and having lived in several different countries as a child I have had the opportunity not only to master the languages spoken around me, but also to absorb the cultural norms, nuances and practices that truly define a particular cultural landscape. English, Russian and Ukrainian are thus my native tongues, with Swedish being somewhere rather close. Hence my current language pairs. Having earned a BA degree in history I have been heavily involved with work in archaeology, ethnology, and oral history. Folklore studies (field and academic) intertwined with a pro video production pipeline perhaps deserve a separate mention. This varied background has given me a broad perspective, interdisciplinary approach to knowledge, and a twist of creativity.
However, the fundamental professional value for me is quality. Translation is a meticulous task, with a creative side to it. I simply see no reason to deliver a product that needs to be proofread. Yet high quality translation takes time and expertise. I have the expertise and I heavily invest in research associated with a particular translation job, aside from trimming the piece into a perfect shape. And I set my rates accordingly. But on a lighter note, I don’t always equate professional values to money and status, so I would gladly translate your dog’s birth certificate too.
