Overview

Hi there!

My name is Max Deryagin, and I am a native Russian translator and subtitler with an excellent command of English
(CPE certified). Diligent and reliable, I have seven years of productive freelance work under my belt, with hundreds
of completed projects and delighted clients.
​
Throughout my career I have subtitled more than 500 videos ranging from commercials and vlogs to documentaries
and feature films — for TV, Web and DVD/  Blu-ray. Having learned the best subtitling practices from specialized
academic literature and many years of hands-on experience, I have successfully worked with corporate clients,
subtitling agencies, video publishers, broadcasters and universities.

Besides creating subtitles, I have also

▪ Consulted companies on the latest subtitling technologies and file specifications;
▪ Helped develop several proprietary web tools and interfaces for captioning;
▪ Researched subtitling standards for different languages;
▪ Compiled subtitling and captioning style guides;
▪ Advised on setting up subtitle production.

On the technical side of things, I have a solid grasp of some of the latest standards, technologies and software
products in the field . Among the subtitling tools I used in the past are FAB Subtitler, WinCAPS Qu4ntum, Softel Swift,
Titlevision Sub Machine, Spot Subtitling System, Subtitle Edit, Subtitle Workshop and Aegisub.
Currently I work in EZTitles, as I consider it the best fit for my professional needs.

I am also a registered subtitling trainer and mentor at ProZ .com , the world’s largest network for translators.
My courses cover a range of topics related to the craft of subtitling.

Finally, I am a member of the European Association for Studies in Screen Translation (ESIST)
and the British Subtitlers’ Association (SUBTLE). Being part of the AVTE federation that comprises
twelve organizations from across the European Union, we promote fair rates and working conditions
as well as high standards of quality and professionalism in the industry of audiovisual translation.
