Can anyone give an indication about receiving payments via moneybookers?
Are their services reliable?
Any points to pay attrntion to?

I have had no problems so far.
They are better than Paypal because:
1. Are cheaper - no fees to pay for just receiving your hard earned money.
2. They issue a Master card tied to your Moneybookers (Skrill) account.

It used to be cheaper because they did not take fees for receiving funds into the account, but no longer so. I am actually dropping MB because recently they took a fee of $64.60 for just receiving Euros 1438 from a client into my account. On another transaction they charged $23 for receiving Euro 530 into my account.
They also used to remit the funds directly into my bank account. Now they use intermediary banks which als take their cut. E.g. on the initial sum of Euro 1438 mentioned above in addition to the fees of MB = $64.60 for receiving funds + $2.50 for remitting the money into my bank account =$67.10 the intermediary bank took $46. Which makes the total fees charged $ 113.1 (roughly 6%).

I have both PayPal and Moneybookers. After a total mess, disrespect to the me as a client, and security problems with Moneybookers, no one ever can persuade me to use Moneybookers again. With their Customer Support, it is a total tragedy (I could write a similar story like "Dell Hell" about the absurds of Moneybookers customer support). I'd agree with those who tell that PayPal is quite a rip-off (and it is actually so), but I decided to use PayPal only from now onward. Why:

I'd agree with those who tell that PayPal is quite a rip-off (and it is actually so), but I decided to use PayPal only from now onward. Why:
1) Moneybookers is not so popular and known like PayPal (say, many clients in USA do not even knew Moneybookers as such, and for one client it took a WHOLE WEEK and many phone calls to Moneybookers office in London to get registered at Moneybookers and pay for my translation services - he was a really very patient person and at that time I did not yet use PayPal).
2) Moneybookers had SERIOUS security problems - 50 EUR disappeared from Moneybookers account for one of my colleagues - no one even bothered to respond to emails of her from Moneybookers where she asked what happened, not even speaking about compensation;
3) they can "freeze" your account without any warning or notice when they want accusing you of "money laundering" (just if you have several hundred bucks accumulated on Moneybookers account in a year or so) - for me it took almost 6 WEEKS to get my account unlocked - after numerous emails to their Support, they demanded certain papers as a proof of my ID, and for several weeks, every second day, I used to send those papers to them, asking if all is OK, if they got what they needed, asking to provide at least formal reasons based on the laws for locking m account, and used to get the same copy-pasted response that I need to provide the documents...Same was with my phone calls to them...Seems it is either some machine answering the emails, or some robots at their phones...I got my account unlocked only after several (international) phone calls to their Customer Support boss in London office (the contacts of whom the staff refused to give - found it by google) and after I told them that I will apply to the UK customer rights authorities...
Moneybookers is a total absurd, their Customer Support cannot even be called absurd (as such does not exist in reality at all), I do not think it is safe to keep or have money here...MY EXPERIENCES WERE SIMPLY AWFUL with them. They can be a good example for marketing students at university as how a service MUST NOT work.
I STRONGLY recommend you NOT to use them. Better pay some extra bucks and use PayPal - they are not ideal, but they at least have customer support, they follow laws and their own terms and conditions, they are safe, known and RELIABLE. Stay away from Moneybookers at a sniper's bullet distance if you do not want problems like I had. Seriously. Some 4 years passed after I had all those absurds with them, but I am still so angry on them, that I still keep telling everyone about my experience with those bastards. ▲ Collapse

They are legitimate (i.e. it is not a fake service). MB has existed for a number of years (although they have changed owners and countries). MB is currently less attractive owing to the silly UK money laundering laws that now apply to it (since its current owner is UK-based). MB used to be much, much better than PayPal (better services, options and customer support) but that is no longer the case. Still, it is a legitimate way of moving money, if you have no other options.
Remember two things:
1. Most US clients can't use Moneybookers because of US banking laws.
2. PayPal is cheaper for clients (the translator pays more) whereas MB is more expensive for clients (the translator pays less... usually).

Actually they've always used an intermediary bank. They just switched recently from using an American bank to using a Polish bank that takes a higher cut from the transfer.

When I initially went to their site to make a withdrawal, they kept asking me to change my password and wouldn't allow me access to my account for over a year.
Then, after that year, after I got ahold of someone on their 800 line, a service that seemed not to be available before that point, I had to send them copies of my Driver's License and a utility bill, and some other personal docume... See more I have not had to use Moneybookers for many years, and I'm really glad about that.
When I initially went to their site to make a withdrawal, they kept asking me to change my password and wouldn't allow me access to my account for over a year.
Then, after that year, after I got ahold of someone on their 800 line, a service that seemed not to be available before that point, I had to send them copies of my Driver's License and a utility bill, and some other personal document.
You can imagine that my reaction to all this was to withdraw everything from my account, leaving just enough in to keep it open.

My account was hacked and stolen from -- and emptied, over 5 separate transactions and when I wrote to them I received a warning email -- that an "attempt" had been made on my account! By that time the damage was done and I was never able to locate a human response from them.
Online banks are a pain in the ass, IMHO, but if your clients won't make direct deposits, I'd just stick with PayPal, who did actually warn me (the only reason I even looked at my Moneybookers account at that t... One suggestion: don't keep a balance in there as I did ... for ordering books, etc. The moment a payment arrives, send it to your normal bank account.

I used it once a couple of years ago. Account base currency was Turkish Lira. Money came in Euro. They converted to Turkish Lira and then to withdraw, they again converted back to Euro. At their exchange rates, of course. They can only transfer in main currencies, I guess.

Their email support is read by real people, unlike machine-replied PayPal. But, PayPal has office in Turkey that provide free support over the phone during office hours. I have not checked this for Moneybookers.
MB does not initially check anything. Later they start asking ID etc.
For my case, I opened another account in different currency. They closed the previous account as soon as they figured it out.
In my recent in coming fund, they charged 2.20USD for withdrawal to the bank. Nothing else was deducted from the funds I received.
It has its own pros and cons. I have to use it because one of my clients can only pay by MB. ▲ Collapse

Are you sure your account is a business account? I used to have a personal account with MB a few years ago because it wasn't clear whether or not I should open a business account as a sole trader. Later it became clear that I had to, and now they charge something whenever I receive payment.
I still like it more than Paypal - it seems more transparent, but I may be subjective.
And back then Paypal didn't have any options to withdraw funds into a local bank account in my country. I think now they allow withdrawals to a credit card, but they may have better options, I haven't checked lately.
