Or the 'payback period' already includes all necessary connotaion of that it is computated as from the start of the project in question and any other word just spoils the sentence/language?

Sorry that I did not answer your question. When does implementation of the project begin? When the money is spent or when work begins? What is the difference? And when else would the payback period begin, other than at the beginning of the project? I think "payback period" is sufficient, but maybe I am missing some fine point.

: I'm with this version as this term is used in everyday accounting/financial language. Professionals in these areas will have to pause before remembering the meaning of "period of recoupment". IMHO.
