Hello fellow linguists,
I wonder if anyone knows of how might be best to translate the following?
It is a type of geo-technical test performed on soil.
If you look it up, you get 'compressed compression' testing, which to me does not sound right.
It is listed under an appendix within this phrase:
Испытания грунта методом компрессионного сжатия
Other methods include: 'Испытания грунта методом трёхосного сжатия', which I understand to be 'soil testing using triaxial compression', which is why I am thinking that 'compression' is the right choice of noun but I am then not sure about what the adjective that precedes it could be.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

Laboratory compaction tests provide the basis for determining the percent compaction and molding water content needed to achieve the required engineering properties, and for controlling construction to assure that the required compaction and water contents are achieved. Test methods such as EN 13286-2, EN 13286-47, ASTM D698, ASTM D1557, AASHTO T99, AASHTO T180, AASHTO T193, BS 1377:4 provide soil compaction testing procedures.

Thank you, congillen. This is not a test on solid objects such as metal rods but on soils. Even Russian texts refer to compaction.

I can not agree with the "compression test " translation as the Asker clearly wants to know the DIFFERENCE between different compression tests (as in you cant call all of her methods using one "compression test", they are clearly different)
