Linguistic snobbery, pure and simple, that's all it is. There are Quebecois who like to stick it to the Anglos every chance they get. I've lived in bilingual areas of Canada, and this kind of snobbery is rampant on both sides of the language divide.
But worse yet, far worse, is when someone gives a speech that is part English, part French, alternating about every half sentence or so. It assumes that everyone in your audience is bilingual, and most of the time that just ain't so. Can ... See more
