This article is an incomplete, inaccurate, shallow, and poorly-researched (such research as was done beyond the good people at AppTek).

The writer missed the details about the broad range of products available, or under development, for self-training and use of non-linguist US soldiers and their NATO allies in the various languages and regional cultures found in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The writer missed the details about the broad range of products available, or under development, for self-training and use of non-linguist US soldiers and their NATO allies in the various languages and regional cultures found in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I must also observe that these hand-held two-way "communicative" devices [1] are not tactically sound and [2] their use injects cultural, affective and mental barriers into a bicultural disacourse that is already under tension and anxiety on the part of all the interactants.

Hope this helps add some light and balance to a shoddy article.
