Hi, I also received the same message. He sent me a Word doc titled "Egypt in Transition". I wonder why they do this and especially why don't they learn to write better emails?

I must say that I received a similar message last month... well, it turned out to be a real client and a good one too. I guess some people are too busy to write a proper email, or they don't think that there is another person in flesh and blood on the other side, and not a quote machine.

The dearth of information on "Scott's" part made me suspicious immediately. He had a gmail address.

I will ask for advanced payment by wire transfer, that usually chases scammers away.
Still I wonder what it is that they want. Maybe send translators a bad check with a larger payment and then ask for a refund?

Same scam asking for Portuguese translation. Tow requests in about 30-day time.

Standard response send in few seconds, faster than one can write it.

I wrote back asking for proof of identity, advanced payment. I'll probably never get an answer back.

The attachment is entitled, "Egypt in Transition.doc." His email address is [email protected].

My question is, can we really report this to the FBI and INTERPOL?

The FBI page says "The IC3 accepts online Internet crime complaints from either the actual victim or from a third party to the complainant." Since we are not the "actual victim" (no actual harm has yet occurred) or a third party, I don't think we qualify for this.

The INTERPOL page says "Report a suspected fraud and abusive use of INTERPOL's name or distinctive signs." I don't see the use of INTERPOL's name or "distinctive" signs here.

Please don't get me wrong. I really want to report these crooks. But I want to be very certain before I do it.
