Hi, guys
I want to ask if someone came across to these documents, are they are mandatory when you are an individual?
Can you tell me more about these...
Thanks

Insurance

Professional indemnity insurance protects you if you are negligent (or if a client wrongfully claims that you are). For example, if a lathe operator is injured due to a mistake you made translating an operating manual, or if a book had to be reprinted due to your errors. Even if you're not at fault your insurance will cover the costs of defending your case. It's not mandatory so it's up to you to decide whether you need this cover. The general opinion on this forum seems to be that it's a waste of money, but lots of translators do have this cover (me included).
Public liability insurance is to cover you if a member of the public is injured due to your actions. I think this would only be relevant to interpreters - translators don't generally deal with the public very much. ▲ Collapse

Rachel thank you very much for explaining these stuff to me in simple words.
So far, I've never came across to these documents, because I was translating subtitles and no need for that in that field.
And who actually is providing this insurance, is it online company?
Anyway I'll check with my clients if these are mandatory.
Thanks, Rachel
