struggling with conversion rule file for xml in WFP Jun 22, 2011

ok. I am still struggling with this. I am obviously not understanding who to create this file. Unfortunately, I cannot share this file.

Anyone has any experience in using a software like "Oxygen" to lock the tags when dealing with xml files in WFP? Creating a conversion file for every document I translate might become cumbersome since I have several to translate at any given time.

Thank you in advance for any help!

Sample xlf_rules.properties Jun 22, 2011

SophieCT wrote:

The following file (supplied by Yasmin) has worked for me with various XLIFF files:

------------------------------
paragraphPrefix.1=]*?>
paragraphSuffix.1=
paragraphFormat.1=html-included

internalTag.1=
internalTag.2=].*?>
internalTag.5=\\$\\{[^\\{]*?\\}
internalTag.4=&[^ ;]*?;
internalTag.3=&[^; ]*?;
------------------------------

Copy the above text to a text file and name it "xlf_rules.properties".

Then, go to Wf Pro and add it in Edit > Preferences > Filters > Formats > New > Text Based Filters, as explained in slide 6 here:

http://www.wordfast.net/?kb=140-35

You should then be able to open your XML file in Wf Pro.

Thanks Dominique, but it seems that proz forums cannot remember the codes correctly. Anyhow, the correct file for XLIFF files can be downloaded at:
http://www.wordfast.net/?kb=163-35

Many thanks,
Yasmin

Thank you Dominique for the explanantion and Yasmin for providing with the downloadable files. All works well until I try browsing for the file in WFP. The txt file that i renamed xml_rule.properties is not there and doesn't appear as a "rule" file. I am at a loss.

Please, talk to me like I am 2 years old : will I need to create a new conversion rule file for every xml document I translate or will this one conversion rule file (once I figure it out) will do?

I am getting somewhat frustrated. I have rather large documents xml to translate, have convinced my employer to purchase WFP since it is supposed to handle those files well and yet I have lost the better part of 2 days trying to figure it out. :S

Thank you all for your help!

Dear Sophie,

If your XML files all with the same format, so it can be one file. Still, if you have an endless number of XML formats, you will need a rules file for each one. The point is that you need to get it!

I do not think your client will mind to send the xml to the support. But I will not insist anymore.

Kind regards,
Yasmin

would you need the whole document or just a part? it has almost 600 pages and I know for a fact that I would not be able to share its entirety (even if it wasn't massive) but I cold possible share a few pages

is XLIFF support really coming? Jul 11, 2011

I really doubt that if WF Pro is going to support the XLIFF format.

I just received a job from a client which requires me to use SDL WorldServer and I had a terrible experience on translating the offline files using WF Pro. The TTX file exported by the server is corrupted and Wordfast can't open it, can't blame anyone since this is a proprietary format. Later, I tried the xliff format, turns out Wordfast can't handle this well (but this file works totally fine on other software).... See more

I did some google searches on how Wordfast handles XLIFF files and I found this thread and this:

Seriously, when can we really have this feature?

TTX & XLF Jul 11, 2011

Dear Chrislau,

As for the TTX, I wonder if it was segmented or not. For more information about translating TTX files, please refer to this knowledge-base article:

A question to WFP developers Aug 22, 2012

If it is really that simple, why do not Wordfast developers include this directly into the source code of their program? As an average user, why do I need to waste my valuable time with this?

Regards,

Gyula
