Hi,
I'm asked from an agency if I accept CAT tools rates breakdowns for repetitions.
I can't really figure out if this is fair... or not.
New translation --> full price
Fuzzy matches (75%-94%) --> 50% of full price
Fuzzy matches (95%-99%) --> 30% of full price
100% matches/repetitions --> Not to be handled

Hi, I usually don't mind if an agent asking for Fuzzy discount. Only if the normal rate is still acceptable. In general, I didn't discount for the fuzzy under 75%.

My base rate is with a discount matrix. The discounts you are showing are normal.
I also offer a lower rate for customers not using one (about 30% discount), resulting in comparable hourly earnings.
We are talking about two different pricing schemes.

Then it's a matter of increasing the base rate or turning down projects with many matches if the discounted grid leads to a discounted hourly rate.
Discount grids are not meant to be additional discounts, but to account for the time you (are supposed to) save recycling existing translations.

I accept fuzzy tables, but if the breakdown is devaluing,
-I either raise my base rate, or
-I only accept jobs where the devaluing percentage brackets are insignificant
This, for example...

Fuzzy pricing should be looked at on a per-language basis, and it should be considering the actual work involved -- for English into German translation, for example, an 80 % match often means a full rewrite, because a change of one English word can have grammatical consequences for a bunch of German words.
My usual base rate is based on this table:
Initial ------------------------Rate Adjustment
100% Match/Repetition-----10%
95-99% Fuzzy---------------30%
85-94% Fuzzy---------------60%
0-84% Fuzzy----------------100%

100%s used to be paid like 30%, and now they are dropping them completely out of the grid - no payment.
My grid looks like this:
100% match = 100%
95-99% match = 100%
80-94% match = 100%
50-79% match = 100%
Less than 50% match = 100%
Oh, and if there were lots of repetitions I would charge 110-150% for everything to compensate for the boredom.

An agency says that [quote] the system calculated the weighted time[quote]-unbelievable to say the least, have they no shame at all? A system that calculates how long a job is going to take me? That's the latest!

The 75%-94% thing is very unfair. Should be higher.
And reps should be like 30% at least.

I never accept such jobs. You're bound to find some utter nonsense in 100% matches, and I cannot unsee that and produce a great translation around such segments.

It also depends on the base rate, how much 100% repetitions there are etc.
Some of the clients still pay 100% rate for everything, without any grids. A while ago I had such a client. Their content and format was so terrible, I’d take 100%s free client any time instead of them.
But generally, I just noticed an increase in those that send offers with 100%s taken out and no interest in discussing it.

Enrique's "No pay, no read" reminded me of my first MT experience in Memsource. Basically I was paid depending on how much i changed the MT suggestions. If I used it without any change, I got 0%.
