Baby Kicking Like Clockwork Muj 11-12-2008, 10:06 PM Okay, I'm not sure if my title even makes sense, but my darling LO has been doing this thing where she'll kick me for a good 5 or dare I say 10 minutes two or three times a day very rhythmically. I'm 34 weeks. There's no music or loud noises going on while she does and she'll go kick kick kick every two or three seconds - for quite a while and at a very constant pressure. It drives my batty! I love feeling here kick but these sessions are a little worrying and I constantly need my dh to comfort me by telling my kicking is good and maybe she's dropped and so she's only kicking with her legs. But I feel like she's rolling all over the place too! "dare I say," "drives me batty" may be British English, these terms are not neutral in the U.S. but are "marked" variants for American English speakers, who might still use them for effect. "Hiccups" is the usual U.S. variant v. "hiccoughs." I had read dozens of books about childbirth, home birth, non-intervention, and I was ready to have a better birth experience. My second labor began the same way the first one had, with those feelings of needing to go to the bathroom. Consequently, I was once again fooled and did not realize I was in labor at first. I was sleepy, but I was getting up every 20 minutes to go to the bathroom, and that was exhausting. Finally, I decided to sit on the toilet until every bit of pee was out of me, so I could go back to bed. There’s no such thing as a little pitocin. My OB swore to me that she’d induce me by starting me off on a very low dose, and gradually increasing it to mimic natural labor. Guess what? Even a little pitocin is a lot. My contractions were 90 seconds apart, with only 20 seconds of rest between each one, very quickly. Ouch. And that sadist of a nurse kept coming in every 20 minutes like clockwork to turn it up some more. |
