I am having trouble understanding the sentence and would appreciate some help!
Full sentence: XXXXX основан в июне 2011 года для ***осуществления доходных инвестиций*** в капитал компаний на принципах со-инвестирования преимущественно в России.
Пояснение: It's quite simple ;-) You make investments to make profit, otherwise, it makes no sense to invest... Something like "XXX was established in June 2011 with a view of making profitable investments in corporate equity under co-investing principles, primarily in Russia.

Don't know if that counts as "a basic investment primer" though.
Capital gains may NOT refer to investment income, not with those who know the actual difference between the two, but I am not going to bother explaining to you why. Suit yourself, or read a basic investment primer.
Most probably, it is a document of some offshore company incorporated by Russians to legalise money via a quite simple scheme. Take money abroad, incorporate a foreign company, and now this company makes investments in Russia as a foreign company. All these verbiage about "profitable investments" is a usual Russian lawyer-style bla bla. As for co-investing, I think, it means that they want to invest not alone but on a parity basis with some other company (ies). Reasons for such co-investing may be numerous, one may guess only.
I thought of writing in my post, "If The Misha is online, he could answer it," but decided there was no point to it at this hour of the morning.... Ah ha, I see: it's that pesky "й" that misled me (it's plural): "in companies," not "in the company."
verbiage, what this means is that the company was established as a vehicle for buying, holding and trading stocks, mostly of Russian companies. "Co-investing principles" is not something you would normally say in English. This only means that you buy some stock in the company - rather than the entire company - but that's kind of what everybody else does, so it goes without saying. As to making "profitable" investments, no one in the right mind ever goes into business intending to make unprofitable investments, so this sounds fairly funny too. So, in real industry speak in English it would suffice to simply say that the company was established to invest in Russian stocks, but of course, depending on your purpose you can translate literally.
Doesn't it have to mean "attract investments," although it is written in a most long-winded, convoluted way? They want investments "в капитал компаний," which means, as I understand it, that they want other people to buy shares in their company so they can invest the money in Russian projects.
