Hi!
I am unable to count the total no. of words in a Powerpoint file. Please help to count the exact no. of the words, so that I can raise a correct invoice.

Hi Manohar,
If you use Trados, you can open Powerpoint file in Tageditor and analyse it, i.e. count words. The same applies to SDLX - as well as other CAT tools, I guess.

Also, remember that if there are uneditable images with text you'll have to extract that text to Word for example and then run the word count on both files the PPT and the DOC.

Use the "Send to" function in PPT to convert it to MS word document.

Hi Manohar,
you can open the PPT file and go to file > properties > statistics (I have ppt in Italian, so I hope I got the names right). However, I don't know if this word count is reliable if the PPT contains tables. HTH

My rates per word are for straight translation in Word or Trados.
I charge extra for formatting, Power Point etc.
I have just sent off two large files in Power Point, with an invoice for five hours' work. If the same texts had been available in Word, I could have done them in two or three hours. This was for a regular client, so they knew what to expect.

You have to agree with the client before you take on the job, but you should make allowances for the kind of file you are working with. Otherwise you will end up with a very low rate for the job.

Hi,
there are a number of wordcount programs which can not only be used for word files (including text boxes) and excel, but also for PowerPoint.
The best is - according to my experience - Anycount.
Here is the website: www.anycount.com
So, no need to copy all texts manually into a word file!

I prefer Anycount. As mentioned above, it counts PowerPoint (among other applications such as Word and Excel) so you won't have to copy and paste, which is both tedious, time-consuming, and prone to error. I also use Anycount for Word when dealing with text boxes (Word does not count text boxes) or multiple files. I recently did a 20,000-word job consisting of 16 Word files. I used Anycount to count them all at the same time, saving me from having to look up the word count in 16 separate files, ... See more I prefer Anycount. A remark slightly off the topic (responding to Christine):
I remember that I used to translate ppt "straightforward" some years ago, but it was really very painful work. Any CAT tool, even TagEditor which do not like, makes this work much easier.
