Hello!

I have a little problem and maybe there is someone who can share some info.

I had a Word file to give to my colleague to translate. My colleague uses Wordfast, I use Studio.

So, I created a .sdlxliff file and sent it to my colleague. She was able to open it in Wordfast, she translated it and sent it back to me.

I can open the file in Studio but cannot save it as Word.

Is there anybody who can let me know what I am missing? <

There must be some settings in Studio or in Wordfast that needs to be done to make sure that there is full compatibility.

Any info is precious, please help.

Thanks!

Hi Francesco,

Did you check to make sure there are no missing tags?

Kind regards,

John

Re: Tags --- Anything different than the usual way to process the file? Jul 8, 2016

Hi John. Thanks for replying.

The tags are ok.

My questions is: when I prepare the .sdlxliff files with Studio that will be processed with WF, do I need to do something different than usual?

And, when these files will be processed with WF, do they need to be saved is some special way to make sure that when I will be getting them I can recreate the original source file?

Kindly, let me know if you know the issue.

Thanks and regards,<

Export the memory into a TMX file Jul 9, 2016

Have your WF Pro colleague export the memory into a TMX file, which is Trados Studio compatible. Then import the TMX file into Studio, which will populate your memory. After that, do your regular conversion/clean-up process to get your Word file.

Did that work?

Yes, it did work that way as well.

But I have to open the txml file first in Wordfast Anywhere and confirm the segments.

In fact, the .tmx file which was given to me by my colleague did not have the translation of the last file (she did not confirm the segments).

After that, I re translate with Studio and the only issue where the tags that I had to fix one by one.

All ok? Jul 11, 2016

Thanks for your private message Francesco,

It appears that it was a missing tag problem and it is now resolved?

For others stumbling on this thread, I can't stress this enough: run the Transcheck before delivering a file to an agency or saving a file as translated to deliver to a direct client. At the very least, just to find missing tags, though there are several other useful features that pick up on small errors, inconsistencies, etc.

As to your question about translating without messing up tags, this is part of the translator's job. If a word in the source is in italics, he/she need to make sure its translation is in italics. If the source has an invisible bookmark, make sure it appears in the target.

I am fairly certain you can use the demo mode of WFP (3 or 4) to run Transcheck though I imagine that SDL Trados has a similar feature.

Kind regards,

John

Hi John, it is all solved.

Thank you also for the Transcheck tip, I will question my colleague to make sure she will use this feature all the time.

Kind regards,

Francesco
