Keyboard shortcuts and Wordfast Classic Автор темы: JoFP

Have recently downloaded the trial version of Wordfast Classic and found that when I use it my keyboard shortcuts (for accent marks in proper names, say) no longer work and that I have to go to special characters to get the characters I want, a time-consuming and tedious process.
I have an AZERTY (French) keyboard configured US-style (QWERTY) and am using Windows MS Word 2007. I'd be most grateful if someone could tell me how to solve this annoying problem. | | | Keyboard shortcut conflicts | Mar 21, 2013 |
Wordfast Classic makes heavy use of keyboard shortcuts. It has dozen of shortcuts for nearly all important and less important functions. These shortcuts are often combinations of the Ctrl, Alt and Shift keys, together with letters, arrows and other keys (insert, delete, escape, enter etc.)

The latter is probably a better and easier solution.
I can understand the point of not using an AZERTY keyboard layout. However, remapping it to the standard US English keyboard is not an optimal solution. The US International English layout would probably be more suitable. You may also want to invest in a physical keyboard that features that layout.
I personally type a lot in French (my target language) on a Finnish/Swedish keyboard, which is QWERTY and works well for me. I also make heavy use of AutoHotKey autocorrect macros rather than keyboard shortcuts. ▲ Collapse | | | JoFP Local time: 10:23 французский => английский + ... Thank you for the response, Dominique. I map my French AZERTY keyboard to the standard US keyboard, because, though my target language is English, I must sometimes write in French, and the US QWERTY keyboard I know by heart, whereas I generally need the physical French AZERTY layout to find the more abstruse characters or diacritics. In short, until I learn another layout by heart, which is not likely to be anytime soon, I'll need to keep my French keyboard (my employer's, in fact) mapped to the... For that reason, then, Wordfast Classic may not be the right choice for me. I confess, too, that I have no idea what "AutoHotKey autocorrect macros" might be. ▲ Collapse | | | John Fossey Канада Local time: 04:23 Член ProZ.com c 2008 французский => английский + ... Not much trouble | Mar 22, 2013 |
I use several programs simultaneously, including WFC, which use various keyboard shortcuts so have to remap them to prevent conflicts. Granted the first time it took a few minutes to figure out, but now that I'm used to it I don't even think about it. | |

Thank you for the reply, John. I'll have to keep take a closer look at things. The odd thing is that my keyboard shortcuts sometimes do work when I'm using WFC, which makes me think the problem may not be a conflict with a WordFast shortcut. Surely, if there were a conflict, my shortcut would never work? | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Keyboard shortcuts and Wordfast Classic TM-Town | Manage your TMs and Terms ... and boost your translation business
