According to the knowledge base article (http://www.wordfast.net/?kb=163-35), the source needs to be copied to target. However, the client gave me an .xlf file with only the source. Is there a workaround? At present when I attempt to open the file, a warning says that there are no translatable segments.
Any suggestion is much appreciated.
Thanks

Due to the typical structure of an .xlf file, duplicating source in target via copy paste in a text editor is likely to be time-consuming, especially if there are lots of segments in the file. Source duplication should be performed in the application that created the .xlf in the first place. Roberto: do you know where your .xlf originated from? You should be able to get a clue by opening it in a text editor and looking at the very first lines.

Wordfast Pro: translating xlf with only source
Jan 12, 2012
@Alex. Copying and pasting is rather dangerous as well as time consuming especially with very large files.
@Dominique. I opened the file with MemoQ copied source to target and exported the file. Then I opened with WF Pro and seemed to work as both source and target segments are present. However, I wonder if support can suggest an alternative workaround without having to resort to other tools.

I'm trying to see if there would be more efficient scenarios: are you an outsourcer or the actual translator? Is your main working environment memoQ or Wordfast Pro? Will the translator (whether you or someone else) be completing the translation in Wordfast Pro?
If the outsourcer (A) is using memoQ and the translator (B) is using Wordfast Pro, A could send B the original source document (rather than an .xlf exported from it); B could return A the translated TXML and the translated document. Because memoQ now supports the TXML format as input, all A needs to do is open the TXML in memoQ, select all rows (Ctrl+Shift+A) and confirm them (Ctrl+End).
If the outsourcer (A) is using Wordfast Pro and the translator (B) is using memoQ, A could open the source document in WFP and send the resulting TXML to B. B can translate the TXML in memoQ, export as TXML (thus getting a translated TXML) and send it back to A. A can open it in WFP and can both update the TM and generated the translated version of the original document.
I know it's not what you were asking, but would the above make any sense in your situation?
