Can someone walk me through the steps of editing a txml file with WordFast Classic?
I have the translation but it has a million tags in it.
The whole thing looks something like this:

This is why you need WF Pro for txml files. WFC is not intended to handle this file format (translation XML files). It is like opening up html or xml file with Word and asking how to strip out the tags, rather than opening the file with an editor designed to work with markup language files.
I have explained the origin of txml files in another post or two in forums here at the proz site. You can find them by searching on posts by my alias/profile name with the keyword txml.

You can convert a TXML in a relatively neat "uncleaned" Word document using memoQ, as explained here:

Unfortunately, it doesn't provide round-tripping.
If you need to edit the TXML, your best bet is to install Wordfast Pro (demo mode sufficient). You can also do it in Wordfast Anywhere, if you want to do it with a Classic-like interface. | | | Edward Potter Испания Local time: 02:35 Член ProZ.com c 2003 испанский => английский + ... I just downloaded and installed WordFast Pro.
I am having trouble getting to my txml file with WF Pro.
Can someone give me the very basics on how to call in the file, then start working on it?
Sorry for the newbie questions. I hate having to go through these learning curves after having used WF Classic for years. | |

File>Create project (select the languages/locales that match your tmxl file)
After creating the project, File>open file works normally, just navigate to the tmxl file.
If you have not already been asked to do so by this point, Translation Memory>New/Open and select your WF tm.

Erm... double-click the TXML file. WFP will prompt you to create a project (or: it will reuse the previouis project, if the language codes are compatible). Then translate the file (cursing as you go along). When you take a break, go look under Edit > Preferences for tweaking it a bit. | | | Edward Potter Испания Local time: 02:35 Член ProZ.com c 2003 испанский => английский + ... Thanks to everyone who has been helping me.
Samuel, your "erm" had me LOL. You are always very helpful on the forums.
It seems that I have everything working well now. It looks like my problem was two-fold: 1) I hadn't yet run the complete install routine; 2) My txml file may have been corrupted (by myself).
So, first, I activated WordFast Pro, instead of using the demo version. Second, I used a different txml file which worked fine. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Editing a txml file with WF Classic Protemos translation business management system | Create your account in minutes, and start working! 3-month trial for agencies, and free for freelancers!
