This seems like a rookie question, but I've looked quite a bit on the web as well as in the Wf config itself, and haven't yet found anything.

I'm localizing a web app right now and would like to preserve the case differences in the various strings... If the translation source includes two items, "percentage" and "Percentage", Wf considers the second a 100% match and fills in my translation for "percentage" automatically, which means when running down the doc with auto-translate, "pe

I have the feeling there's a really simple check box solution to turn this on, but I can't find it...

Thanks in advance

However, you might want to check some explanations here:

Good luck!

TM Rules Dec 19, 2011

I would think that making sure that "Penalty for case difference" rule is not equal to 0 (in Wf Translation memory | TM tab) would do the trick.

I think what you need is this:

Penalty for case difference=1

It's under Translation Memory > TM rules

Yes! Dec 19, 2011

Dominique and JL, thank you both! It did do the trick. Woohoo!

Magdalena, I followed that link and there was no info on KeepCaseAlways, so I downloaded to manual and huh, KeepCaseAlways = "If the document's source segment is all uppercase, then Wordfast will change the target match of the TU it may find to uppercase as well - because this is usually necessary. However, this command will inhibit this behavior."
Which is not what I was looking for... But thanks for the help just

I looked in the TM rules and penalty for case difference is enabled (although I did not enable it myself). So, what else can I do?

Works here with latest version Dec 20, 2011

You don't enable penalty for case difference. There's always a value for the penalty. What matters is whether that value is zero (no penalty) or something else. Penalties are typically changed via one of the three preset profiles (regular, cautious, paranoid). The regular profile translates into a penalty for case difference of zero, the cautious profile into a penalty of one and the paranoid profile into a penalty of five. This is if you have a version recent enough (you didn't mention your version). It works here with the latest versiuon as far as I can see.

Works for me with 5.61k Dec 20, 2011

I did what Dominique and JL had said and changed Penalty for case difference to 1, and it's been working for me... I'm afraid I don't know enough about Wf to guess at what the problem might be on your machine, though my tentative suggestions would be either resetting Wf's options, uninstalling and reinstalling it, or uninstalling it and installing a newer version (in the last-case scenario, and if you do have an old version).

Hope that helps.

Dan

I have version 5.61 k Dec 21, 2011

With enabling I meant the value is 1, supposing by default it was 0.

Thank you anyway for your advice. I will try this out.

It's not a binary setting Dec 21, 2011

It's not a binary setting (0= off, 1 = on). That penalty (and all others) can take any value from 0 to 100. Well, up to 50 in practice, since Wf Classic doesn't show matches that are less than 50% (the lowest possible value for the fuzzy threshold).
5.61k is a rather old version already, but Daniel said the feature works as advertized in that version.

Informative title Dec 22, 2011

Christel, is it possible your Wf is somehow configured to treat 99% matches as fully matched? If I understand correctly, that would do away with the "1% penalty" from "penalty for case difference = 1", it seems.

My fuzzy threshold is 75%.

If have now put the penalty for case difference experimentally on 10 - let's see whether something changes:-)
