Dear translators/interpreters,
This is a Part 2 of a survey on the translator/interpreter, which has been designed with 2 aims:
1) to understand more precisely what people who 'translate/'interpret' actually do
2) to raise awareness of the state of the profession - and improve it.

For part 1 we received over 1,200 replies. The results were published, and are freely downloadable from: download2.hermes.asb.dk/archive/download/Hermes-42-7-katan_net.pdf
Please give your opinion here, even if only work part time in translating/interpreting (eg. you are a lecturer, or still a student)
Almost all the comment boxes are OPTIONAL, so if you are rushed don't feel obliged to comment, just tick the boxes.
If you have any queries please contact David Katan ([email protected]).
Many thanks - and please do pass this on to as many as you can ...

Hi Angela,
Thanks! The results from part one look interesting. I look forward to reading part two.

There are some methodological issues with the survey. For example, you ask whether the respondent is either (i) an interpreter only or (ii) no matter whether a translator exclusively or both. Some two pages later you ask whether the respondent has any interpreting experience.
In a different place, you seem to presume that all translation is copy (rewriting the copy until the client is happy). Somewhere else, addition is mentioned explicitly as a possibility but omission is not. ... See more There are some methodological issues with the survey. Or question 28. You mix the commonness of the term with how often the respondent has heard it.:
How familiar are you with the term "transcreation"?
It's a commonly used term
I've heard of it
And question 33 is broken, it resets to 1-7 from top down, there's no possibility of overcoming that bug.
You still have some work to do to on the logic of it. There are several more issues of this kind. And proofread it.
I'm not exactly pleased with this, as you can probably guess, but I wish you some meaningful results from the survey, which I hope to become a significant contribution to the study of translation issues at your alma mater. Just make it 100% functional and sort out the logic please.
