In a translator test i got this question:

"What steps do you follow in order to ensure the translations you deliver are of good quality (please list 5 key points)?"

Would be interesting to hear some of your ideas.

There is a huge difference if your customer is an agency, or.. Jun 17, 2011

a direct client.

Which one is it?

QA and know-how Jun 17, 2011

I've seen similar questions in various LS vendor registration forms.
While I understand that a potential outsourcer wants to know something about my QA processes, I see no reason to reveal certain parts of my know-how before I see the first job from this outsourcer.

As a watcher, I'd like to share with you what a LE does in a localization company Aug 8, 2011

Firstly, I am not a LE. As I said, I was just a watcher as an intern. I have never really done the QA process practically. The process I will share with you is what my collague does for QA.
He does the QA work as follows:

1. Scanning: once he gets a task, he oftens opens all the relative materials he gets from the PM, like word-counting, styleguide,Instruction, glossary sheets and then opens the localized file and scrolls up and down to get a general impression

2.Checking by QA Tools: He likes the tool named Xbench. As I know, Xbench can check out errors like empty translation, wrong terminology translation, consistency and numbers etc. Of course there are so many fault errors in the results generated by the tool that we can always believe them.

3. Sampling: after the checking by QA tools, he then samples different types of errors from the task file, and fill the errors in a QA form to get a QA report based on a TQI system.

Maybe, my words are not very descriptive
