Hi,
I am pretty new to the field, and just got my second volunteer job, yaye! It is a document that contains .jpg images in the source text and I was wondering what the standard practice is in terms of including the images or not in the translation.
My first instinct would be to call the client (but if there is a standard practice then I wouldn't want to bother her).
Second instinct: just include the images.

Your instincts are commendable: Indeed, you should call the client and ask him/her/them. Don't forget to tell them (educate them) that text in illustrations is a hassle. It's often less well readable and it's totally impossible to use TM software.

I should have specified though that the image does not contain text...it is a just a photo copied into the word doc. Would you still call the client? | | | Tjasa Kuerpick Словения Local time: 09:41 словенский => немецкий + ...
If the photo does not contain any text, just leave the photo where it was, and translate the text. There are many reasons why an author leaves a picture or photo in a document. One is that the translator might easier understand the text, which describes the picture. Certain authors however prepare the text, add a picture only as a decoration.
Do not delete the picture. If you use a translation tool, it might happen that the pic does not show up properly. In this case, copy and paste...
