"Газпром" into "Gazprom" is NOT translation. It is TRANSLITERATION. Quite different things.

For Russian, my main policy is to first check on the website to see if there's an 'approved name', and if there is, to use it (regardless of how poorly translated or cumbersome it looks). The problems start when they don't - what do you do with Завод Композитно-Полимерных Изделий, for example? Translate it or transliterate it?
