i figured out the merging, borrowing, pushing of it all by myself but i didn't know about the shortcut for adding time to fix CPS. do you happen to remember how to do it?
and, by the way, thank you for setting me straight with the 1-3% CPS leeway guideline - that really gave me a push at the end. i reviewed the whole task with that in mind and made significant changes (and passed the test).
turns out, i actually enjoy subtitling more than regular translation. it's like constantly solving a linguistic puzzle)) i've been writing lyrics for many years - and this is similar to that. with all the time constraints, line limitations, etc. the brain has to always be search for something better - more concise, more to the point, and beautiful at the same time.
I know, right? For me also the subtitling is more enjoyable than translating.
Right now I don't have access to Ooona, but now I remember that there wasn't shortcut for that, that function for CPS I think it was like when you check the subtitle for errors, and you also have multiple choices for fixes, boxes for ticking, and than you can find fix CPS... Find this in the Edit menu or Tools. I'm not sure where, but I'm sure that there was option for this.
Edit:
I found some of my old guides
The first one in technical column

After the check, there will be FIX button, and it will add time whenever is possible

Ten years ago, frustrated with how little information on subtitling was available online and inspired by the "Ask me anything" subreddit, I started this thread to share my knowledge with peers. A lot has changed since then:
- Many subtitling forums facilitating information exchange have popped up on Facebook, LinkedIn, Discord and other platforms;
- Numerous blog articles have highlighted different aspects of our trade;
- The Netflix Timed Text Style Guides have homogenized and streamlined our approach to subtitling;
- The software we use has become more known and got better documentation;
- Translation rates have stopped being much of a secret;
- AVT associations have shed light on our rights and the bad apples in the industry;
- AI chatbots have grown adept at answering simple questions.
Today, people are more aware than ever before of the ins and outs of our profession, and the thread has partly lost its purpose.
Still, I'm happy that it helped so many fellow subtitlers to find their footing in our profession, to understand its various nuances, and to gain confidence in what they do.
Here's to another 10 years of fruitful conversations!
