Which is what makes me think that the word "круглая" refers specifically to the first symbol (k in a circle), rather than all circled letters.

Regardless of what letter is inside or what is its meaning, the term "круглая" знак could be universally translated as a circled symbol or a circled letter.

is one of the special symbols included in the typeface being discussed in the article, along with ® and Ⓒ. I think it is a Latin rather than Cyrillic K, so not strictly a Russian to English question, but the author refers to it as the " 'круглая' знак " and that is my question. What is a "круглая знак"? (Ⓒ is the copyright symbol, ® is the registered trademark symbol, and Ⓚ is the ??? symbol). Would the kosher symbol be included as a special symbol in a typeface?

Do you mean Latin letter "k" or Russian "к"? In English a circled "K" can denote "kosher." Also various brands use it. But... that's not a Russian-to-English question.

The K, circled K, and the circled U are all meant to indicate the product is kosher.

but this is capital K and in the US context. Does it fit? "circled symbol, sign."
