Hi, Tuliparola. I read it and was somehow disappointed. There is not much about translation, as its title may suggest. (Perhaps I saw it as a promise and was then disappointed) It is a good novel, though. Aurora

Hi, I read it, too, and I was disappointed, too. Good luck, Jan | | | Stephanie Wloch Германия Local time: 14:29 Член ProZ.com c 2003 голландский => немецкий Автор темы Better novels with translators as leading characters? | Jun 24, 2005 |
Hi Jan, I am really very curious: do you mean other books (novels) with translators as main characters? Which ones? Aurora: thank you for your opinion, which is very helpful, because up to now I haven't read a review about the book written by a translator. And yes I would have high expectations too, before starting the book regarding translators world. | |

Hi Turiparola, no I didn't mean novels with translators as main characters but others (if you're interested, I send you a short list with my faves to your email direction). But actually, I'm behind a novel with a translator as main character: It's called "No se hable más" and it's from Mariano Antolín Rato (Alianza, MAdrid, 2005). I didn't read it yet, because my book-seller doesn't find it in his shop... It's about a translator who lives in the Albaicín... It's about a translator who lives in the Albaicín quarter of Granada, well, and I'm a translator and I'm living in the Albaicín of Granada, too. Sounds interesting, dosn't it? "Footnote" by Rodolfo Walsh. A real jewel. The footnote starts as a line and grows as the story moves forward. And whose is the footnote? The translator's. As the story advances, the translator gets more and more space until.... Au I don't think this great story by Argentine writer Rodolfo Walsh has been translated.
