Adding html elements into SRX rule but turns out not working at all

My client sometimes will send me xls files which containing lots of HTML elements, such as "< br />" and "< li >< /li >" . Since they are all in excel format my CAT software won't apply html segmentation rule to it, results one segment sometimes may contain four to five sentences, it's really frustrating. So I decided to manually set a SRX segmentation rule myself, add segment after every single ">" character.

I'm using Ratel from OKAPI framework to edit my own SRX file, turns out the software won't recognize both ">" character and "backslash + >" string (Illustrated as the picture below). Am I missing something here?
