In manual WF mode, Alt+Down makes Word97 enter an extra character at the beginning of the target sentence: paragraph (pilcrow), smileys, etc.
The character is entered when I release the Down key.
Any ideas how to correct this?

I've had a similar thing recently, but the cause of the problem was some other software that ran in the background.
