I've tried for the first time to translate a PPT file (only one slide to see how it works) using the trial (Version 5.0) of Wordfast. After finishing the translation, cleaning up and closing Word, I've checked the translated PPT file only to find out source segments don't dissapear but instead are all in the same place, followed by their translations grouped immediately below, all on the same slide. What am I missing here?

Are you sure you "cleaned" it? May 18, 2005

What you describe sounds what it should look like before you "clean" the document. Check again if you can clean it, either using Quick Clean (third icon from the right) or proper Clean it (inside WF's control panel).

If worst comes to worst, start from scratch but at least you now have a TM which you can use to speed up the translation. I personally don't translate PPT directly using WF, though, but my own method requires a bit of computer savvy (see omtwfppt.txt in http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wordfast/files/).

Yes May 18, 2005

Hello, Samuel. Thanks for your comments.Yes, I'm sure I cleaned using the "Quick clean" function after translating (several times) and checked the Word file before going back to the PPT. I found in the forums there is a special command in the PB (Pandora's Box) that should always be used when translating PPT's; if I'm not wrong, it has to do with links. So now I'm thinking of giving it a try again (activating this command) with a longer PPT file...and see what happens.

Did you find that command again and did it work?

I don't exactly have your problem when translating ppt files. My problem is that formatting like bold, underline, italics disappear from the text in ppt. The copied text in Word has the formatting, but when it is inserted by Wordfast into the ppt document, it's gone.

Other than this I find that Wordfast masters ppt translation very well!

Yes, it worked! Jun 3, 2005

Yes, Dan, it worked. It was easy to solve...and there must be many other details I'll have to find out about when I use WordFast. This is where I found about the command:

On the other hand, the following site exists:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wordfast/

for people to share information and make questions on WordFast; maybe you can find the answer to your problem there.
Good Luck!
