Hello everyone.

How do I take a translated target text in Word format and align it with a txml source?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Edward

Export TXML file to doc Dec 16, 2014

Hi,

It would be nice if you can provide more info.

I am assuming that you don't have the MS Word source file. Then we will create one from that txml file.

1. Open WFP and switch to the PM Perspective.
2. Choose Bilingual Export tab and add the TXML file.
3. Click on the Export Only button and a dialog with a drop-down box will appear.
4. Choose MS Word table without placeholders and click Export button.
5. Open the exported doc file

5. Open the exported doc file and copy all items in the source column paste them (text only, without formatting) into a new MS Doc.
6. Align this new MS Doc and your target MS Doc to create a new TM.

Hope this helps.

I have the source Dec 16, 2014

Actually, I do have the source file in Word. It was converted from a pdf but seems to be a reasonable conversion.

Is there a better way to do it now?

Reiterating, I have both the source and target in Word format. I need a txml out of it now.

You need to align the source and target document to create a TM, and then you must translate the TXML. WFA and WFP have aligners but they don't work very well. PlusTools is your best option for alignment, to create a WF TM. LF Aligner may also work, but it creates a TMX file, which you then have to import into WFP to create the WF TM.

There must be a way to perform a pre-translation in WFP that will translate all segments that are in the TM, in one go, but I don't know where that function is. Note that the alignment is unlikely to contain all the TXML file's tags, in the right places, if at all, so you'll have to fix that manually.

LF Aligner Dec 16, 2014

I'd use LF Aligner ("how to" by yours truly here) to align the source and target documents. Import the resulting TMX in Wordfast Pro and use that TM to translate the source document. As Samuel said, you may have to add the odd tags, and perhaps play with segmentation too (expand/shrink segments in order to have better matches).

Pretranslate in WFP Dec 16, 2014

It's found under the Analyze tab of the PM Perspective:

In this case, it's probably a good idea to lower the % of matches to something like 80, in order to catch mismatches due to tags and/or segmentation differences.
