I'm in the middle of a translating a large file, and suddenly the client "updated" the source file, adding a full page of text in the middle of the original.

What is the proper procedure for working with this new source file, so that I don't lose all the work that I've already done?

Thank you

Three options Aug 13, 2014

1) If you are using a CAT tool, clean what you have done into a new TM and use that TM to automatically translate the new document. The exact procedure depends on which CAT tool you are using. This has the advantage of automatically finding any other changes that have been made.

2) Ask the client to swear, in writing, that the added page is the only change then copy and paste it into your existing document. Translate as normal. This won't find the other changes but they won't be you

3) Ask the client to provide the extra text separately, translate it separately and let the client put the file back together themselves.

Two solutions Aug 13, 2014

If I were in your place I would think of two ways:

1) If it's only a page that has been added and the rest of the text hasn´t been changed, I would translate the added page as a separate file (naturally with the same TM and glossary) and than put it into place once the translation finished.

2) Upload the new, updated source file using the same TM and glossary as so far and then use "Translate until Fuzzy match". In this way, the already translated segments will appear

Good luck!!

Thank you Aug 14, 2014

These options were very helpful. I ended up committing my work to that point to the TM, then opening the new file with the new content and translating until fuzzy. It worked well.
