One of my clients has asked me to work on a large project using Trados Studio 2011.
Is there a way to manage this format with WP?

Thanks a lot!
Lucia

Not possible to use WF on Studio files Feb 12, 2013

Trados Studio files cannot be opened in Wordfast, and there are also often problems with importing tmx-files exported from Studio, so it might not even be possible to import an exported memory and translate the original files in Wordfast in order to at least be able to return translated files and an exported updated memory (and the segmentation is different).

The native document format of Studio is SDLXLIFF, which Wordfast Pro doesn't support (it does support generic XLIFF to some extent, but there are too many proprietary extensions in SDLXLIFF to make it a usable option).

AFAIK, SDLXLIFF can be converted to TTX (TagEditor), which Wordfast Pro can handle, as long as it has been prepared properly. You may therefore ask your client if they'd accept to send you TTX files instead of SDLXLIFF. You'd also need any TM supplied with the job in the industry-standard TMX format, and any terminology supplied in the form of an Excel sheet (it's easy for Studio/MultiTerm users to do it with the Glossary Converter plugin).

for your reply. I'll try to convince my client to provide me with a ttx file, which I usually manage with WP.

Work on the review files Feb 13, 2013

In Studio one can export for external review, which results in a Word-docx-file. You can translate the target column in Word with WFC or any other tool. After that the file can be imported into Studio.
I haven't tried that myself but it should work, if you manage the tags well.

That will probably work. Note that the same tool can also export sdlxliffs into xslx tables. If those can be imported back into Studio, they will probably be easier to process in WF than the docx. (If push comes to shove, you can just copy the relevant column to a txt file and translate that.)
I would do the final proofreading in Studio to make sure everything is kosher.
