I use Wordfast Pro v. 3.1.3 on a Mac running OS X 10.8.2.

I was sent TMs (.txt files) by a client today but was unable to use them - I got the error message "Failed to connect. Translation memory memory header is invalid".

I use Wordfast Pro v. 3.1.3 on a Mac running OS X 10.8.2.

I was sent TMs (.txt files) by a client today but was unable to use them - I got the error message "Failed to connect. Translation memory memory header is invalid".

At http://www.wordfast.net/wiki/Common_Error_Messages_in_Wordfast_Pro#Failed_to_connect._Translation_memory_header_is_invalid three solutions are suggested:
- language code is incorrect (open in NotePad and find-replace),
- Trados txt TM (convert to TMX), or
- missing % (open in WFC - Reorganize).

But
- I don't have NotePad; I have TextEdit, but there's no language code to replace as far as I can see.
- I don't think the TM is Trados-based and I don't have Trados to do the conversion
- I don't have WF Classic.

Could anybody help?

P.S. This seems to be slightly similar to this problem recently discussed: http://www.proz.com/forum/wordfast_support/241913-wordfast_does_not_import_tus_from_tmx_file.html, except that I am getting an error message. ▲ Collapse

- TextEdit on Mac should be sufficient for tasks performed with Notepad on Windows
- You can easily tell a Trados TXT from a Wordfast TXT by looking at the first couple of lines: can you post them?
- Classic can easily be installed on Mac (even if you don't have a license), provided Office 2011 is installed. Installation instructions can be found on the Wordfast wiki

You may also want to send your TM to the hotline, for further investigation

If it’s a Trados TM, as the client to send you a TMX file instead.

For a Mac user without access to a Windows machine, it's indeed the only solution.
