Hello,
I've recently upgraded from one of the first Wordfast 6 models to 6.03t in the hope that it would speed up glossary searches. I have a couple of glossaries, each with around 30,000 entries and I find that when these are loaded, and I press Control Alt arrow to tab across to the term I want, it takes forever to load each word in these two glossaries. However, I have the same glossaries on my laptop version of Wordfast (which is XP and which I've left as Wordfast version 5.5z as it was working fine) and the entries come up really quickly on there. Is there anything | can do to speed up the process? I'd rather not revert to the old version on my desktop as I like many of the features, but by the same token, the keystroke glossary entries are virtually unusable as I can type the word faster (and certainly dictate it!) from the Glossary Companion before it comes up. The problem arises when I have a lot of entries in one segment, so I have to scroll down the companion to find the word. No difference between the different versions of 6 in terms of speed, so I'm not sure why it has changed from the old 5 series.
One other point: what does the yellow highlighting mean in the target/TM box now? That seems to be a new development but doesn't seem to relate to the colours of my glossary entries. I wondered if it indicated possible concordance matches? It comes up sometimes even if there's no TM match and the words in yellow are not in my glossaries.
Many thanks,
Claire ▲ Collapse | | | AC, companion | Feb 5, 2013 |
If it's enabled (it is by default), try disabling Terminology from Glossaries, in AutoComplete (AC):

If you have enabled the Terminology companion, but are copying terms the "old-fashioned way" (Ctrl+Alt+arrow), try closing it.
You said you are dictating. I assume you are using DNS. Does it make any difference (in terms of performance) if DNS is turned off? | | | Claire Cox Великобритания Local time: 09:03 французский => английский + ... Автор темы
Thanks Dominique - I didn't even know that existed! That's a huge improvement. Having started out with Wordfast, I've recently been "coerced" into using Trados Studio for certain clients and whilst I still prefer to use Wordfast, I do like the way Studio brings up potential glossary entries, so I'm delighted to see that's what this does too.

The speed of retrieving entries using the old-fashioned method was the same whether I was using Dragon or not, but I tend to just say the word if I'm dictating so I suppose in those instances I could revert to activating the companions. A lot of my glossaries include the same term but with many different meanings depending on context/client, etc, so I have always liked to have the companion there to see all the options.
Sounds as though I need to go on a refresher course to find out all the latest functions! ▲ Collapse | | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Glossaries in Wordfast Classic and new highlighting Pastey | Your smart companion app
