Hello been working on WFP today and it is really slow it takes several seconds for it to record a typed word, yesterday it was running as normal. I'm on a laptop running Windows 7.
I've just finished a rather large segment that took me ages to complete I am now working on smaller segments and speed is better but still not what it should be.
Adopting an earlier suggestion I have updated Java but require further help... I have a deadline to meet and this is a real difficu... Dear Maria,
First of all, please make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest version of Wordfast Professional available at:
http://www.wordfast.com/store_download.html
Please try the following procures:
1- Quit all the programs in the background while you are using Wordfast Pro. (very important)

Please try the following procures:
1- Quit all the programs in the background while you are using Wordfast Pro. (very important)
2- Set the Edit > Preferences > Memory Preference to the third value.
3- Disable real-time features such as: "Spell-check as you type", "Perform TM Lookup automatically" or "Active TransCheck" if you have activated any of them.
4- Work in the "Text View" as it is usually faster: http://www.screencast.com/t/MzMthLWUco
5- Ask your project manager to split the TXML files into smaller ones, or you can do that yourself using Split/Merge feature described at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEsY9sfjx7U
6- When you use TM Lookup you can search for exact phrases (even in quotes) rather than for very regular words.
7- If the TM is from another program, it may help to open it in Olifant (for Windows) to clean it first. To clean the TMX tags, you can use Olifant:

- File > Open to select the WF TM
- Edit > Select All
- Entries > Remove Codes > Remove both TMX tags and their content > OK
- Save
Also, try to delete duplicates and copy-sourced segments to make the TM smaller:
- Entries > Flag Entries > "Duplicate source and target" and "Source is the same as target".
- Click the toolbar button "Set filter for flagged entries".
- Press Ctrl+A to Select All the flagged entries.
- Delete.
- Save.
8- Try to disable your anti-virus for a while and see if this makes any difference.

I am still having problems:
1. I did this, no difference.
2. At first WFP would not allow me to increase memory beyond the minimum. Once I had installed WFP 3.1.2 it did but no difference.
3. I did not have these enabled.
4. Doing that, no difference.
5. I really cannot do this, this is my problem, not my client's and I do not wish to involve them, hope you can understand this.
6. I am hardly using TM look-up.
7. I cannot see how the TM can be the... See more I am still having problems:

Really reluctant to mess around with TMs additional program downloads etc.
If I were to hazard a guess I would say that WFP is not reading (or using) the free memory I have available on my machine. Rather this is my husband's guess and he is an electric engineer...

I was really hoping for a more permanent solution.
Dicing the text up in smaller portions just seems to be a temporary coping strategy that does not address what appears to be the underlying problem.
I would hate to think that WFP can't cope.

Dear Maria,
I have another suggestion: try to create a new user account on your Windows, and run WFP on it. See if this make a difference.
You will need to relicense with the new install number, but no problem. Let's see first the speed issue.
