I've recently installed Wordfast - and since then I am unable to download a document from f.inst. my e-mail at the first attempt. When trying a second time, I manage to download it. I thought the problem would then be that I had to have Word open BEFORE trying to download, and sometimes I can download in first attempt, sometimes I still have to try twice.

I thought the problem would then be that I had to have Word open BEFORE trying to download, and sometimes I can download in first attempt, sometimes I still have to try twice.

The worst problem is that I regularly have to download a document for translation from a site. And when I click to download, the site confirms that the document has been collected, while it is actually not to be found anywhere on my PC, even if Word is opened before trying to download. And on this site I don't get a second chance to download, so I loose the job.

Has anybody had this problem?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Make sure you know where on the disk you download Jun 23, 2004

Hi,

AS far as I know opening Word or not has nothing to do with the downloading.
When you download a document (or a file) it is stored somewhere on your PC's disk.
Usually when you click for downloading you get a message like "do you want to open or save on disk " . Choose the "save on disk" option and then you will get another window where you can choose the location where you want to save the file.
(something like c:mydocuments\newjob... or whatever you like.

The default option is some directory like c:windows\temp ... depending on your Windows version and your parameter settings too.

Anyway make sure when you accept the download that you confirm the file (or directory) where you want the file to be stored.

If you miss it you can use the find option in Explorer to try and find it. It has to be somewhere !!

Hope it helps

I wish it were that easy! ;-) Jun 23, 2004

Actually, I get no option of whether I want to save or open.
When I click on an attached document in my mail, it just opens in Word. That was before Wordfast. Now, when I click, I just get a message saying "the document failed to download".

When I click on a document to collect from the site it just opens as well in Word. Only when I have already received the document in Word I can save it the usual way as a file. Before Wordfast I had no problem with that, now I just get a me

I have been searching my computer all over, 'cause I reasoned like you: "it HAS to be here somewhere!". But it's not.

Any more suggestions, please?

Clic with the other button of your mouse. Then chose "save target as" and tell it EXACTLY what you want it called and where you want it stored.

Best of luck!

right-click Jun 24, 2004

Hi Dinny,

You don't seem to be "downloading" the document but just opening it from the link (which sometimes is a bit tricky). When you open a document (.doc, .pdf, etc) form a link, it is stored in a temporary folder (generally something like ...internet temporary filesXBCHFIG*.*)

What you should do is right-click on the link (straigh from the website where you get the documents or from the email you received) and click on "Save Target As", so you can place the document in the folder you want and only then, open the document from that location.

HTH,
Grace.

PS. this hasn't got anything to do with Word or Wordfast!!

Thank you! ;-) Jun 24, 2004

I'll try the "right-click" trick and see if it works that way.

I am confirming though that this problem was NOT there before I downloaded Wordfast. I just left-clicked on my documents - both in mail and on the site - et voilà, document ready on screen.

Thanks for your help!
(I'll return if it doesn't work!)

Dinny
