We have officially released a new version of Wordfast Classic, our MS Word-based TM tool. Wordfast Classic 6.0 offers several new features and enhancements including:

· Automatic Find and Replace feature
· Redesigned toolbar
· Enhanced QA functionality including proper name typo detection and punctuation checks
· Improved data editor for advanced TM and Glossary maintenance
· Improved terminology recognition
Valid Wordfast Classic or Wordfast Translation Studio license holders can upgrade to WFC 6.0 at no charge by logging in and downloading the new version from our website here - http://www.wordfast.net/index.php?whichpage=downloadpage

Using Word 2003 on WinXP Pro SP2:
1. The data editor is indeed much faster and more responsive.
2. The control panel now takes 2-3 seconds to load, as opposed to the instant load of 5.x.
3. There is now a file name length limit of 32 characters on TMs and glossaries (how is this progress?).
4. I'm happy to report that WFC 6.0 does not attempt to retag a tagged XML file.
5. Installing WFC 6.0 over WFC 5.x seems to retain the license number and all existing settings.
6. The PB option to eject the CD tray no longer works.
7. And finally, jokes aside, when I installed WFC 6.0, Microsoft Word attempted to access the internet. Why is that?

Does Wordfast Classic 6 run on Win7 64 bit with Office 2007?

Office 2007 is 32-bit, even if your Win7 is 64-bit. Wordfast Classic "sees" Office, not so much Windows.
But even if you were using the 64-bit version of Word 2010 (2010 is the first version of Office available as both 32 and 64 bit), the latest version of Wordfast Classic (6.01g) would work with it.

For most people, Wordfast Classic is primarily aimed at Word documents. But if you are creative, you can translate almost anything. For instance, with a little pre- and post-processing in memoQ, I can translate any format memoQ can open.

Kristyna,
I'm a great fan of Wordfast and currently use version 5.61 nearly every day. If I install version 6 and have problems (or just don't like it, which is unlikely!) can I get back to version 5.61 easily (and quickly)?

Just keep a copy of your existing wordfast.dot (for instance, rename it to wordfast.dot.561), as it's no longer available at wordfast.net > products > download
If you need/want to revert to 5.61, it's just a question of renaming that file back to wordfast.dot and performing the installation from it.
