Missing VLTM tab/option in WordFast Classic Автор темы: Roland Combes

I always get confused with WordFast tabs since they unhide many sub-menus in a number of styles. VLTM is next to TM, BTM, MT, TM rules, and TM attributes tabs. If you cannot see it, you had better deselect and select the WordFast.dot add-in to your Word program. Or replace the WordFast.dot file with the latest one.

Follow these steps and you will see the VLTM tab.
Here what says the VLTM manual :

Wordfast version 5.50 or higher must be installed as per the Wordfast manual specification. You must have a valid Wordfast license to run WfServer locally. You do not need a license to use the remote VLTM service, whether it is used in read-only mode, or in "workgroup" read-write mode. A license, if needed, can be purchased from www.wordfast.net.
B. Setting up Wordfast for a remote VLTM (over-the-web)
In Wordfast, go to the Translation Memory/VLTM tab. Make sure the "Use a remote VLTM" checkbox is checked. Supply a language pair if prompted to do so (Wordfast assumes you use the current TM's language pair, if a TM is currently selected). Close Wordfast and save changes on exit.

Ah, I wasn't aware that VLTM required WfServer. That's a pity since I don't have a PC and WfServer is PC-only.
Thanks for the responses though.

Just found out another reason I'll never be able to use WfServer; it's price. For the price of buying each user a new Mac laptop, WordFast will allow me to share TMs among WordFast Pro installs (an ability that I was lead to believe was part of the Pro version), each of which is no small expense.

It's a bizarre and seemingly business-destroying strategy. Provide an excellent translation tool for free (WordFast Classic) and then charge exorbitant (and recurring, in the case of WordFast Pro) prices for the next step up.
:: sigh ::
In general I like WordFast (and Pro) and their tools have helped my translation work immensely but it's really disappointing to see such lack of business savvy as it puts in doubt the future of that company and thereby its ability to support the product in the future.

Hi Roland,
I was wondering if you have tried Wordfast Anywhere, our free web-based TM tool. WFA allows you to work on translation projects and access TM assets from your browser so your OS does not matter. In WFA, you are working inside of a password protected area on a centralized server, and you can invite colleagues to share your TMS and glossaries in real-time. This functionality is free of charge. In Wordfast Classic, the public VLTM can be used for free without the need to install WfServer (even in the Demo Mode), and a *confidential* Workgroup ID can be created. Still, it is a Windows feature only.
In Wordfast Pro, using the VLTM requires only a valid license. This video describes how to activate it:

The VLTM tab is now labelled Anywhere in version 6.03t:
... and it's labelled Remote TM in version 6.04:
The reason for the change is that the VLTM hosted by Wordfast is no longer the only TM you can access, it's also possible to access TM's hosted by anyone (agency, corporate etc.) running Wordfast Server. | | |
