Can anybody tell me what syntagmatic semantics is? Where can I find information on this? As far as I know it's something related to generativists but opposed to cognitive approach.
What is this all about?

Thanks in advance

Syntagmatic semantics/paradigmatic semantics May 27, 2008

The former studies the proposicional and the discursive meaning (Weinreich 1965) whereas the latter studies the creation and disappearance of words as well as the regulating laws of the changes in meaning.

Syntagmatic semantics is the semantics of the phrase determined by context.
Paradigmatic semantics is focused on the lexical meaning, which is analysed within the semantic relationships. It is also called lexematic semantics.

Hope it helps. Cheers

thanks for your response. (Are you a linguist?)
Can I understand, in general, that syntagmatic semantics is semantics of a given word/phrase whose meaning changes and depends on the context? I conclude that it is connected with polysemy or/and homonymy. For example, syntagmatic semantics may analyse the meaning of the word 'order' in different contexts - its actual meaning depends on the context it is used in. Is my thinking correct?

thanks once again

Syntagmatic processes refer to the influence of “horizontal” elements

Syntagmatic processes refer to the influence of “horizontal” elements
on a word or phrase, in contradistinction to paradigmatic processes,
which refer to “vertical” or alternative substitutions in a phrase.

While syntagmatic relations are possibilities of combination, paradigmatic relations are functional contrasts - they involve differentiation. Temporally, syntagmatic relations refer intratextually to other signifiers co-present within the text (in praesentia), whereas paradigmatic relations refer intertextually to signifiers which are absent from the text. (in absentia)

The syntagmatic elements refer to positioning while the paradigmatic elements in a sentence refer to substitution.

Example:

The- man- cried (The horizontal axis is syntagmatic).

The man cried
boy
girl
sang
died (The vertical axis is paradigmatic)

I recommend reading "Langue and Parole" by Saussure.
