I'm trying to remember a story about an infamous mistranslation back into English of Douglas McArthur's famous quote:

I said, to the people of the Philippines whence I came, I shall return. Tonight, I repeat those words: I shall return!

I'm trying to remember a story about an infamous mistranslation back into English of Douglas McArthur's famous quote:

I said, to the people of the Philippines whence I came, I shall return. Tonight, I repeat those words: I shall return!

Supposedly, some "young, inexperienced" translator had to translate this quote back into English from some other language (I don't remember which), and he rendered the phrase I shall return as the more cartoonish (and reminiscent of Arnold Schwarzenegger in his "Terminator" days) I'll be back!

I this story true? Or a so-called urban legend?

I can't find it and I can't get it out of my head!

Please help me retain my sanity
